Samantha Crain to Host Writing Workshop

DURANT, Okla. – Choctaw songwriter and musician Samantha Crain will conduct a writing workshop for youth at the Choctaw Cultural Center.

“Introduction to Songwriting” will be held 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29 for students in grades 8-12. The workshop is designed to help young writers develop song ideas, verses and more as Crain shares her techniques that have brought positive reviews from the New York Times, Rolling Stone magazine, and other music critic publications. A two-time Native American Music Award winner, Crain’s 2020 album “A Small Death” ranked No. 8 on Rolling Stone’s best music of the year and came in 25th on NPR’s 50 best albums.

Crain will be making the Durant stop while on a national concert tour.
