Call for Volunteers for Earth Day Spring Cleaning Event

Published April 11, 2023

DURANT, Okla. – The Choctaw Cultural Center is calling for volunteers to assist with “spring cleaning” its campus on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. Registration of volunteers will begin at 12:30 p.m. near the entrance of the cultural center campus. A welcome and handing out of supplies will follow at 1 p.m., and the event will conclude at 3 p.m.

Cultural center staff, those with center memberships, the Choctaw Nation Youth Advisory Board, Tribal members, local civic clubs, school groups, and public supporters are all encouraged to join in the afternoon service project. Trash bags, gloves and safety vests will be furnished, along with water and any first aid needs.

Keeping the cultural center litter free is the goal of the day. There are many exciting events coming up and having the cultural center looking refreshed reflects on the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s (CNO) relationship with the land. The activity will benefit the ecosystem of the 100 acres of the center’s native prairie campus, and in turn the center staff hopes to inspire others to create impactful and lasting “clean green” approaches.
