Alabama Water Institute Hosts Archaeologist at Choctaw Cultural Center

For thousands of years before all-electric stoves were common in American kitchens, early Choctaws prepared food in clay-lined fire pits. The Choctaw Cultural Center recently offered a demonstration of this ancient technique in a class of Traditional Earth Oven Cooking for the public. Mike Fedoroff, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alabama specializing in southeastern archaeology, facilitated the event.

Choctaw Cultural Night for the Magnolia Festival on June 1

The Choctaw Cultural Center is partnering with the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce to help kick off the Magnolia Festival. Choctaw Cultural Night for the Magnolia Festival will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 at the Choctaw Cultural Center.

Call for Volunteers for Earth Day Spring Cleaning Event

The Choctaw Cultural Center is calling for volunteers to assist with "spring cleaning" its campus on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. Registration of volunteers will begin at 12:30 p.m. near the entrance of the cultural center campus.

Samantha Crain to Host Writing Workshop

April 3, 2023

Choctaw songwriter and musician Samantha Crain will conduct a writing workshop for youth. "Introduction to Songwriting" will be held 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29 for students in grades 8-12.
